Writer's picture: Philly Weeds Philly Weeds

The legalization of marijuana or weed plants has made its plantation a normal farming business not only in the United States but around the globe. Though not officially, it’s almost legal in the United States and all of Europe. Have you decided growing marijuana plants inside your home or oit side? Well! This guide will be helpful for you if finally, you have decided to grow your marijuana plants. It’s pretty easy growing marijuana or weed plants due to their hardy nature. They can grow in a vast variety of climates and can withstand many environmental factors, however, some factors influence the growth of marijuana plants, well don’t worry in this article I will guide you on how to grow marijuana from seed and soil selection to getting the final product. Because growing marijuana is not only inexpensive but also an interesting hobby if you want any side activity in your free time.

Like any gardening activity, growing marijuana is also a skill that is developed over time with experience. However, growing marijuana is a simple process that can be learned by a simple effort. First of all, you should know the fundamentals of marijuana growing in which you can understand growing marijuana inexpensively and most profitably. For basics, you should know what are the factors that influence the growth of the marijuana or weed plants? and what factors can help you to get more yields from your homegrown marijuana plants? Factors that are listed below here play an important role not only in the growth of the marijuana plants but ultimately in the final yield that you will get from these gorgeous plants. These factors are:

➢ The right selection of seed

➢ The right selection of soil

➢ Fresh air

➢ The right amount of water supply at the right time

➢ Humidity

➢ Proper light, especially that spectrum of light which is needed during a specific life stage of marijuana plants

➢ Right temperature at a specific stage of the life cycle of the marijuana plants

➢ The right selection of the nutrients at different stages of the life cycle of plants

➢ Careful selection of the medium of growth for the plants

If we take growing the marijuana plants in sense of growth strategy, it can be divided into two types. These types are:

1. Low-stress training or LST

2. High-stress training or HST

Let me explain to you these two methods separately so that you can get not only a clear understanding but also can be able to implement these strategies in your gardening of marijuana in your home or apartments.

Low-Stress Training or LST:

Low-stress training or LST is all about the manipulation of the shape of the marijuana plants to get the maximum yields. It’s pretty easy and fun to do apart from being a profitable activity. So, what do you need to do low-stress training for your marijuana plants? Well, here is the list of equipment you will need:

1. Rubber-coated plant wires

2. Thin bamboo stakes

3. Small hand drill

4. Duct tape

Don’t be worried after hearing the list of equipment; these are common things that almost every gardener has in his home. Let’s proceed to our next step;

How to perform low-stress training or LST?

Performing low-stress training or LST can be divided into four easy steps which are;

1. Start performing less stress training during the vegetative phase of the plant's growth, remember, the earlier the better

2. Hold the main stem of the marijuana plant and bend it gently and securely tying it to place by using the soft plant wires which we discussed above

3. Always maintain a flat surface after the main stem is tied so that all the branches are of equal height

4. Re-adjust the bent stems from time to time (regular follow-up)

Benefits of low-Stress Training:

Some of the benefits of low-stress training are:

➢ You can get better yield from the marijuana plants using the same light and growth setup

➢ You will have complete control over the height, size, and shape of the plant

➢ By this method, plants will produce many big buds instead of having one main bud with tiny multiple buds that will eventually increase the plant yields.

High-Stress Training or HST:

High-stress training or HST is also known as super cropping. It’s a method in which the marijuana plant is wounded intentionally to get the high plant yields along with the quality of the products that farmers get from marijuana plants. It is believed that when marijuana plants are wounded, they increase the production of CBD and THC along with higher overall yields. This is based on a concept according to which when the plants are stressed, they activate their defense mechanism, CBD and THC are the products of such a mechanism that farmers are trying to get. If this method is applied appropriately it can result in shorter plants but with good branching having many buds which ultimately lead to a good plant yield.

How to Perform High-Stress Training or HST?

High-stress training or HST can be performed by various methods which we will discuss here to make you fully understand of application of each method;

Pruning or defoliation: in this method large amount of leaves that are growing on the branch internodes are removed. This saves the energy of the plants that it gives to the leaves not getting enough light.

Topping: This process is usually used for the indoor growing systems of marijuana plants. In this process, the top of the main stem or lateral branches is cut down which provides strength to the side shoots.

Lollipopping: In this method of high-stress training of marijuana plants, less useful leaves and flowers are removed from the marijuana plants to divert the plant’s resources for the more useful leaves and flowers which results in more and strong buds thus giving high yields.

Super cropping: In this method of high-stress training, the plant is bent down at the right angle to the soil or growing medium. This method helps the plant to focus on repair mechanism which in turn produces good quality buds and gives better yields.

Mainlining: In this method, the lower portion f the plant growth is chopped off thus decreasing the burden and reducing the stress on the marijuana plant. This method is usually used alongside other methods especially topping to get the best possible results of high-stress training.

Benefits of High-Stress Training:

Following are the benefits of high-stress training for marijuana plants:

➢ It increases your plant’s yield

➢ You will get more top buds from your plants

➢ You can control the plant’s size

➢ You will have more space available

➢ You will able to use light more efficiently

➢ You will get more CBD and THC
